Barclays Bank has apologised to customers for inconvenience caused by a revamp to the counters at its main Bury St Edmunds branch.
The Cornhill branch only opened two years ago but Barclays has closed its counters saying the update ‘will provide a new banking experience’.
But annoyed customers complained of confusion and inconvenience as signs referred those needing counter services to go to Tollgate Lane or Thetford branches.
Barclays said: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers.
“Although the counter is closed the branch is still open and we have extra staff in the banking hall advising customers on alternatives, which include using the Post Office.”
Signs did not mention using the nearby Post Office.
