Schools across the Bury St Edmunds area are appealing for businesses to support a new project which will see pupils visit a workplace to find out how maths is used.

The Bury Schools Partnership would like a small group of children from each of its schools to visit at least two businesses next month for ‘A World of Work day’ to compile a profile of the firm and learn about the importance of maths in everyday life. They will work together to produce a brochure about the local businesses and links to numeracy. British Sugar is among those already taking part.

Clare Lamb, head of All Saints Primary, in Lawshall, said: “Children often struggle to see how the numeracy skills they are learning in school will have an impact on their future careers.” Contact Sarah Trueman on 01284 761393 ext 225.
