Five friends from St Benedict’s School in Bury St Edmunds are biking to Southwold and back for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Joe Daniels, Ben Oakes, Matthew Hunter, Tom Wesley and Matt Nichols are tackling the 100-mile journey on April 14 and 15, spurred on by student Lily Anderson who was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma aged just 14.

Last year the team finished a 30-mile ride, raising £600. This year, the team have already raised more than £2,700.

Lily said: “I was diagnosed with cancer at 14 and was treated on the teenage cancer ward when I relapsed.
“I am OK now though. I had a stem cell transplant last year and I am nine months in remission now.

“This bike ride is not only for me but for Jamie, a young girl I was friends with from Haverhill who died of aggressive carcinoma earlier this year.

“This bike ride is also in aid of her because Teenage Cancer Trust helped her too.

“We have managed to raise £2,700 so far, it is amazing really, we thought we were going to raise £500 at a push.

“We wouldn’t have believed it.”
