Lakenheath’s 492nd Fighter Squadron kept up a tradition started by the USAF during World War II by helping Santa at the annual children’s Christmas party at the Imperial War Museum’s Duxford airfield.

The Duxford Christmas party was created by the USAF’s 78th Fighter Group at the then RAF Duxford to supply gifts and support to children from the London area who were orphaned by the war.

“These Airmen are a solid link between the past and present,” said Richard Ashton, IWM Duxford director. “They have helped a tradition that has been done by the American GI’s for over 70 years continue to flourish.”

This year more than 270 people attended the party.
