A Rougham based company has created an innovative air compressor that will be used by Rolls Royce.

Avelair Compressors’ product removes particles from the air that could be detrimental to its function.

Managing director David Wood, said: “It’s going to make quite a lot of impact in the market place.

“We can compete in a new market with a product that is offering the best air quality available but also which has other benefits such in terms of the running efficiency.

“It is also more energy efficient and has reduced service costs.”

Existing compressors, used for tools, machinery or as breathing aids, are either oil lubricated or non-oil lubricated.

Even air from non-oil compressors can contain as much as 2-3 micrograms or oil per metre squared.

Avelair Compressors’ product, designed by technical director Tim Shepherd, reduces this to 0.002 micrograms per metre squared.

It also converts silicon particles to silica, which is particularly useful to the car industry as silicon particles can ruin paint.

Rolls Royce has ordered two of the compressors to use in its new spray painting plant in Chichestor.

Avelair Compressors is based in Rougham and employs 20 people.

Mr Wood said the innovation of this new product would allow the company to approach new markets.
