A rhino was among the highlights of the annual Thetford and Croxton Open Gardens fund-raiser which attracted more than 550 people.

Small patios, courtyards, spacious lawns and old gardens completed the 33 strong line-up for the event which made more than £6,500 for St Nicholas Hospice Care.

The event pulled in the crowds from far and wide including London, Sudbury and Norwich and even attracted international visitors with a couple of ladies from Berlin.

One home displayed an ornamental rhinoceros, which was loaned by Maison et Jardin, in Barnham.

Now in its eighth year, it is organised by the Rachel Woods, Sue Norman as well as Brian and Jennifer Farrell.

Mrs Woods said: “There really was something for everyone.

“One of the front gardens was full of beautiful hanging baskets.

“People were going the extra mile. It had a really lovely community feel about it.

“More than £6,500 has been raised at the moment , which is a brilliant result for one day.”

The event was sponsored by Thetford Garden Centre, Laswons estate agents and Rollmark.

Photography student Sophie Wheeler, 15, designed the cover of the open gardens programme.
