The rise of George Formby is told through dance, impersonation and song in this entertaining one-man show.

Ewan Wardrop wrote ‘Formby - an ordinary man with an extraordinary talent’ and stars as the man himself.

He charts the rise of George Formby from failed jockey to movie sensation, blending the story of the performer’s life with the progression on his musical career and also finding the room for tap routines and character roles.

Wardrop brilliantly plays on the silly, tongue in cheek nature of Formby’s music to great affect raising many a laugh to the audience.

Simultaneously he succeeds in paying homage to Formby’s musical innovations and work during World War II lifting spirits on both the home front and the front line. EL

Formby will be performed at 2pm and 7.30pm today at Bury St Edmunds Theatre Royal to book call 01284 769505.
