Councillors have approved the new route of the Eastern Relief Road despite objections from traders on the Rougham Industrial Estate and some residents.
The new road from Skyliner Way to the A14 will pave the way for expansion of the Suffolk Business Park and 500 new homes.
Traders are concerned this will create a rat run through the industrial estate and there are fears over safety for cyclists on part of Sow Lane,
On Thursday St Edmundsbury’s development control committee approved the new route which takes the road further north of the industrial estate. Planning conditions include strategies for bats and badgers and that trees and hedges to be retained are protected.
Other conditions are that no work should start until improvements are made on the slip roads at junction 45 of the A14 and a suitable site management scheme is agreed.
