A puppy with a big appetite found himself in the doghouse after scoffing £400 holiday spending money the day before his family flew to Spain.

Murphy the Labrador’s owner Donnah Dear said the playful pup had ‘quite a history for a dog so young’ having eaten everything from skirting boards to socks.

However, this most expensive meal left the five-month- old unpopular as his family faced a budget trip.

Donnah, 37, of Tuddenham, said: “We thought ‘oh no we are going on holiday with no money that’s really bad’ –but it was okay, it didn’t ruin our trip.”

Murphy stayed with Donnah’s mother-in-law as the family headed off and she was soon able to report that he was depositing his funds.

“As we queued to get on the plane we heard that she had got about £300 back, by the time we returned it was £375. The last £25 has disappeared.”

Shortly after recovering from one inedible feast, Murphy decided to eat a sock.

This time he required surgery, during which Eastgate Veterinary Group of Bury St Edmunds and Mildenhall expected to find the final £25. However, it was nowhere to be seen.

Donnah said that Murphy’s adventures had done nothing to curb his insatiable appetite.
