The selection process continues for a Conservative candidate to stand in next year’s General Election for Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket.
A progress report on the selection process for a prospective parliamentary candidate is due to be given at a meeting of the Bury St Edmunds Constituency Conservative Association’s Executive Council on Tuesday, September 9.
It follows MP David Ruffley’s decision to step down at the General Election in May after he received a police caution for assaulting his former partner.
During the meeting a timetable, selection process and the confirmation of a ‘sifting’ committee will be agreed. An update will also be given on a meeting with the candidates department.
Mr Ruffley revealed his decision to quit at the end of July saying a ‘protracted media debate’ on his private life would not serve the interests of his party in East Anglia.
