A tackle dealer has started a poster campaign to combat the problem of fish poaching from the region’s rivers.
Steve Calder, owner of Carping On, in Mildenhall, said customers were increasingly telling him about incidents of fish poaching.
To tackle the problem he has produced posters in several languages informing anglers of the UK’s ‘catch and release’ policy.
Mr Calder said if the problem is not tackled it could ‘decimate’ the region’s rivers.
“Since we opened our shop, I’ve heard some real horror stories involving netting and even electro-fishing on a near commercial scale.”
He believes the problem is predominantly the result of a lack of communication.
The information posters are printed in Polish, Lithuanian, Albanian and Portuguese.
Mr Calder said: “The UK is unusual within Europe in that we pursue a catch and release policy.
“In other countries it’s perfectly normal for anglers to take home any fish they catch pike, zander and carp in particular.
