Polar Collective are touring schools in Suffolk in a series of workshops leading up to the West Suffolk Schools Rock and Pop Awards

Pop band Polar Collective say they are thrilled to be part of the West Suffolk Schools Rock and Pop Awards.

The band, made up of singer Jake Cardy, guitarist Adam Dodd, saxophonist Alasdair Newbigging and drummer Gryphen Ford, have been touring schools in the area teaching students about song structure, songwriting and about the business side of making music.

The series of workshops lead up to a battle of the bands at the Apex in Bury St Edmunds on February 27.

Jake said the band have been blown away by the musical talent of some of the students.

He said : “We are absolutely loving it.

“The fact that we are going in for the whole day is so much more rewarding than just showing up and playing.

“To hear students singing the songs we wrote as students ourselves has been amazing.

“It has been really rewarding to meet the students and offer them advice about the music business.

““I wouldn’t say we were surprised because we know there is a lot of good music happening around Suffolk but we’ve seen a lot of kids who are technically a lot better than us.

“There was a band in Stowupland who blew us away by how technically good they were - and we had to go on after them.

“It is really nice to see students and teachers so enthusiastic about music.”

Jake said he can’t wait for the big event at the Apex.

“It will probably be the biggest venue we’ve ever played,” he said.

“It is going to be a big night.”
