Police have named a woman who died following a road collision on the A11 at Mildenhall as 56-year-old Sharon Field from Offley, Hitchin in Hertfordshire.

The fatal collision has reinforced the need for improvements to the stretch of road between Fiveways roundabout and Thetford.

John Bloodworth, chairman of Mildenhall Parish Council, said improvements to the road ‘could not come soon fast enough’.

Ms Field died on Wednesday following a three-vehicle collision involving a VW Passat, a Citroen Picasso and a box van to the north of Fiveways roundabout.

Emergency services, including the air ambulance, were called to the stretch of road at 11.15am on Tuesday. Ms Fields, who was the driver of a VW Passat was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where she later died.

The other two drivers were not badly hurt.

The stretch between Fiveways roundabout and the Elveden crossroads is currently being dualled in a £102 million Highways Agency scheme.

Cllr Bloodworth said: “I do not think the improvements can come soon enough – over the years we have had quite a few bad accidents.”
