Plans to alter a Grade II listed shop in Lavenham so it can be used as a food store have been given the go-ahead.
The East of England Co-operative Society has received planning and listed building consent by Babergh District Council to modify the former Hogg@Home shop, in High Street.
There is already a Co-operative Group supermarket in the village.
The applications attracted 59 letters with some residents arguing that ‘an additional Co-op food store is unnecessary, will detrimentally affect the livelihood of existing busineses and there will be further traffic congestion’.
In a report, council officers said the matters ‘do not relate to the subject of either application that being the physical alteration to the buildings’.
