Between 2012 and 2013 2,476,000 in profit was raised from parking charges and penalty notices in Bury St Edmunds.

St Edmundsbury Borough Council has seen profits from parking increase each year since 2009 and plans to increase charges on some tariffs again in 2014.

A spokesperson for the council said: “St Edmundsbury Borough Council uses car parking charges from its off street parking to make sure we can improve our car parks, create new facilities, ensure efficient management of the flow of traffic on our streets, provide safe places for vehicles and a proper balance between short and long stay places.”
