Regular Bury Free Press contributor and microlight pilot Steve Wilson captured this stunning image of the cross shaped plantation at Berner’s Heath.

The site was used as a high altitude bombing range during World War Two and is 2.75 miles south-west of Elveden Hall.

The range was administered by the RAF station in Mildenhall and was made available to be used from December 1936.

It is understood that neither the cross shaped wood or the forest to the east of the heath existed until at least the 1950s.
