An agreement has secured the short-term future of leisure services in Mildenhall while plans for new facilities are pursued.
A new management agreement between Forest Heath District Council, Mildenhall College Academy and Anglia Community Leisure will see the Dome Leisure Centre, in Bury Road, continue to provide services until 2018.
Warwick Hirst, Forest Heath District Council’s cabinet member for health, leisure and culture, said: “I am really pleased that all the partners involved are making sure the dome stays open for as long as possible by working closely together to manage a smooth transition from the current leisure provision in Mildenhall to better, cheaper to run facilities.”
The Mildenhall Hub project proposes replacing both the Dome Leisure Centre and 40-year-old Mildenhall Swimming Pool in Recreation Way.
The project aims to create a public service hub by bringing council, education, leisure and other facilities together on a single site in order to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
