St Nicholas Hospice Care has relocated its charity shop in Thetford following a six-year search for new premises - with the town crier making a special proclamation.

The hospice opened the shop which sells donated clothes, toys, bric-a-brac and household items in Riverside Walk after moving from Bridge Street.

To mark the occasion, Thetford Mayor Sylvia Armes cut the ribbon while town crier Mike Wabe gave a loud proclamation. He said: “Now they’ve moved to premises new, so gentle folks come form a queue.”

Susanne Dickson, hospice retail field support officer, said the move has been a long time coming .

She said: “We have been looking for new premises in Thetford for the last six years. We’ve been looking for something bigger and we also wanted to raise our profile in the town - many people did not know the hospice had a shop in Thetford.

“Our new premises in Riverside Walk are a lot bigger and more prominent as it is the main place for charity shops in the town.”

Dave Willis, shop manager, said: “It has been a lot of hard work but it is great to finally be here. A lot of the volunteers have waited a lomg time for this.

“Now, we are finally able to offer a larger selection of goods to customers and hopefully they will come in, enjoy shopping here and raise more funds for the hospice.”
