England legend Alan Shearer has been put through his paces by a Needham Market university student who devised a training session to recreate the conditions in Brazil.
Lee Warren, 22, who is studying for a masters in sports and exercise science at the University of Bedfordshire, gave the all-time leading Premier League goalscorer a fitness test inside the 32C, 76 per cent humidity Lucozade Sports Conditions Zone.
Lee said: “For me it was a dream come true, to have one of the all-time great England players use a training session that I set up using the skills I’ve gained at Bedfordshire and applied here; it’s certainly one of the highlights of my time at university, it was truly amazing.”
Shearer was later joined on the course by Euro ’96 star Steve McManaman.
Following the session, Shearer said: “The first time round the course was alright, but by my third time around it was extremely hard. In those conditions you couldn’t keep it up for ten minutes.”
