Nearly half of export firms in Suffolk plan to take on more staff this year

Nearly half of all export firms in Suffolk expect to take on more workers this year a survey has found.

The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce economic report for the fourth quarter of 2012 found 44 per cent of exports plan to increase staffing.

“The latest report sees a real return to optimism,” said Dr Peter Funnell, chamber president.

“We have launched our 2013 campaign Exporting is Good for Suffolk in the last few weeks and these figures do indeed show us that exporting is critical for our local economy and that we have some good solid foundations to build on in the year ahead.

“The hard work that has been undertaken by businesses throuhgout 2012 is bearing fruit.”

There was a dip in the perforamce of manufacturing deliveries and orders, especially in the UK – although again firms that exported goods fared better.
