The Director of the Museum of East Anglian Life is to leave the museum in December.
Tony Butler, who has been director of the museum in Stowmarket since 2004, will take up a new role as Executive Director of Derby Museums Trust.
He said: “I have been here for a while, nine years, and it is time for something different.
“I have had such a fantastic time here and have worked with some lovely people.
“It will be a real wrench to leave Suffolk.”
In the last nine years the museum has expanded considerably with a 30 acre nature reserve created in 2006 and the opening of the Queen Anne, Abbot’s Hall in 2012.
Since his time at the museum visitor numbers have gone up from around 25,000 to 40,000 a year.
Tony said: “I have had a wonderful nine years at the Museum.
“I am constantly cheered by the affection Stowmarket people have for this place.
“The museum is not only at the heart of the community but now an impressive attraction for the region.”
