Tributes have been paid to a ‘beloved husband’ who died in a three-car crash on Tuesday.
David John Rolfe, 75 (right), of Mildenhall, died when his blue Toyota was involved in the accident near the gate of RAF Mildenhall, in West Row Road. His family said: “David John Rolfe, beloved husband of 53 years to Janet, much loved father of Teresa and grandfather to Charlotte, sadly passed away tragically [on Tuesday] aged 75 years.
“He lived for the three women in his life. He lived to help family, friends and neighbours. A giving person with a large heart. His love for the women in his life was equal to his passion for working outdoors and gardening. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.”
Flowers were laid at the side of West Row Road.
The crash prompted calls for a safety assessment to be carried out on the busy route.
Mildenhall parish councillor Gerald Taylor-Balls said: “I think it’s a dangerous piece of road.”
He has called for talks between Suffolk County Council, the Highways Agency and RAF Mildenhall to see if the 60mph road could be improved.
The accident happened at 7.55am on Tuesday. Mr Rolfe was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in her 40s was taken to West Suffolk Hospital with back and chest injuries and a second woman was treated for shock.
A spokesperson from RAF Mildenhall confirmed US and British citizens had been involved in the collision.
