Barry Estabrook has been jailed for 20 years for the murder of Brian Knock

A man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the brutal murder of 38-year-old Brian Knock.

Barry Estabrook, 44, of Brooksfield, Bildeston, entered a guilty plea at Ipswich Crown Court on December 12.

Today Judge Goodin heard from the prosecution that on Saturday August 21 Estabrook and Mr Knock has been drinking separately in the Red Lion Pub in Bildeston.

The court heard that after making their way back to their respective homes the two men had come together outside the address where Mr Knock has been living in Brooksfield.

Mr Knock was then stabbed 21 times on his chest, neck and arm.

Eastabrook fled from the scene, returning home and posting admissions that he may have killed someone on a social media site and to his sister.

Members of Estabrook’s family arrived at the scene where Mr Knock’s body was found.

The ambulance service were called who in turn called police at around 4.15am.

Mr Knock was pronounced dead at the scene at 5pm.

Police were then alerted to a car that had left the area without lights.

Officers followed the vehicle which was found a short while later in a hedge on Wattisham Road.

Estabrook was discovered hiding in a ditch and, as there were concerns he could be carrying a knife, was tasered before being arrested and taken into custody.

Following Estabrook’s arrest, officers searched his home finding clothes, his mobile phone and a kitchen knife in the washing machine.

They also found a shirt with Mr Knock’s blood on it.

During the post mortem, where x rays of Mr Knock’s body were taken, small shards of a knife coating were found.

These matched the coating on the knife found in Estabrook’s washing machine.

Detective Inspector Kevin Hayward from the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major investigation Team led this murder investigation.

After Estabrook’s sentencing he said: “This was a particularly brutal attack where a defenceless man, Brian Knock, sustained horrendous fatal injuries.

“For the sake of Brian Knock’s family, I am pleased that Estabrook entered a guilty plea and admitted his guilt in respect of the murder of Brian.

“Suffolk prides itself on being a safe county and thankfully incidents such as this are very rare.

“I hope after today’s sentencing where justice has been done, Brian’s family will have some form of closure and be reassured that Estabrook will now be imprisoned for a considerable time.

“Finally and importantly I would like to thank the local community in Bildeston who have helped and supported us through this investigation.”
