A man who broke into a club and drank cans of Guinness was found asleep on a sofa by the business’ owner.

Allexander James Crossley, 40, of The Drift, Fornham St Martin, was sentenced to a 12-month supervision order with alcohol treatment requirement at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

Crossley had been convicted of entering as a trespasser and stealing alcohol at an earlier date.

The court heard that he entered The Malthouse, Ipswich, shortly after 1am on July 9.

David Bryant, prosecuting, said Crossley smashed windows and damaged a fence panel and door to gain access to the club.

The court was told that Crossley had been declared bankrupt and subsequently had a nervous breakdown.

He was told to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £625 in costs.
