A man has been charged with assault and firearms offences following the discovery of a number of weapons at a home in Wyverstone earlier this week.

Suffolk Police initially received a report on Sunday April 13 that a woman in her 40s had been assaulted at a property, in Potash Road, on Thursday March 27.

Officers attended the address and a man was arrested on suspicion of assault.

A spokesman said: “As part of the investigation, police carried out a search at the property and discovered a number of weapons. The search will continue over the coming days and the house remains cordoned off whilst these investigations continue.”

James Arnold, 49, of Potash Road, Wyverstone, has been charged with two counts of assault and four counts of possession of a prohibited weapon and has been detained in police custody to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday April 21.

A 45-year-old woman from the Stowmarket area was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited firearm. She has been released on police bail to return on Wednesday May 21.
