A project aspiring to build a new state-of-the-art community centre in Lakenheath has had its bid to purchase the former Royal British Legion Club accepted.
The People’s Project has been fund-raising and campaigning to acquire the site, in High Street, which was closed in August 2012.
Brendan Fulham has spearheaded the project.
He said: “We are extremely pleased and grateful to everybody who has supported is and encouraged us throughout. Their support has been wonderful and I could not have done it without the support of the village. “So many people have given us not just financial support but words of encouragement which have seen me through the difficult times.
“I hope to reward the trust they have placed in us and deliver a building to their satisfaction.”
The trustees of The people’s project will now look to secure further funding and draw up plans for the development of the site.
