Joey the puppet horse from the West End production War Horse joined the real horses of the Household Cavalry at their annual open day at West Tofts Camp near Thetford.

Thousands attended Sunday’s open day which marked the end of a two and a half week training session at the camp, which allows the 120 horses and 200 men to practise things they cannot do at their London barracks.

The exercise included activities aimed at improving riding skills, such as show jumping and tent pegging, but also worked on drills for the protection of royal carriages during public parades which is the main function of the unit.

The horses and riders also had the chance to gallop on the beach at Holkham.
