The inquest has been formally opened on an 86 year old man who died less than two weeks after being assaulted by another patient at West Suffolk Hospital.
Suffolk Coroner Dr Peter Dean last Friday adjourned the inquest on Richard Bowman, of Lanwades Road, Exning, awaiting the completion of reports on his death at the hospital on the morning of December 8.
Dr Dean said a post mortem revealed Mr Bowman’s cause of death was bronchial pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Mr Bowman died 12 days after being assaulted with a bottle by another patient. In December Suffolk Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious, though they were investigating the alleged assault.
