The mother of a courageous little boy who has undergone intensive therapy for a brain tumour has launched a fund to raise money for other children with cancer.

Henry’s Holiday Help will raise money for families to help them with either holidays during or after the youngsters’ treatment.

Katie Dalgoutte from Bury St Edmunds began raising money after it was thought that Henry’s tumour had returned and he would need specialist treatment in America.

Fortunately this was not the case and now Katie wants to help other families through the fund.

Henry, now aged two, was diagnosed with an ependymoma, a malignant fast growing tumour, in January 2013 and needed nine hours of surgery to remove the growth and a year’s intensive chemotherapy.

Katie said he showed symptons for three weeks including vomiting and his his mobility rapidly declined.” It was horrible, He couldn’t sit up and was falling over,” she said.

Henry finished his chemotherapy at the end of February and will receive regular scans to check the tumour has not returned.

Katie said: I started a facebook page called Henry the Handsome when we thought we’d have to have further treatment and we will keep some of the money we raised in case the tumour returns but I want to keep on raising money for other children with cancer, those that have been diagnosed in 2013 the year Henry was diagnosed.

“Henry’s a little monkey and is now walking. Like most of the children he just smiled all the way through and got on with it. We were told it would take 12 months to get him to crawl again but now he’s walking.”

Tonight Katie and supporters are holding an event at Kids Play on Station Hill raising money for the fund and on April 16 there will be an event at Mothercare when Keri Bird will be doing live pregnancy body casting at the store alongside other fund-raising events.
