Stowmarket High School have received a good ofsted report

A headteacher says he is ‘delighted’ that progress at the school has been recognised by Ofsted inspectors.

In September last year Stowmarket High School received a ‘requires improvement’ mark by the schools watchdog.

But after a follow up monitoring inspection on January 16, Ofsted has praised the school in the way it has tackled the areas it had identified.

The report describes the school’s improvement plans as ‘clear, appropriate, ambitious and well-understood’.

It says attendance rates at the school have improved significantly, the use of assessment data better enables teachers to plan activities for its pupilsand that senior leaders at the school have taken ‘rapid and decisive action’ to raise overall standards.

It also says teachers benefit from a range of support and that many sixth form students are now acting as ‘peer mentors’, helping pupils to make further progress.

Headteacher Keith Penn said: “We are absolutely delighted with his findings.

“His report and the more detailed feedback he gave to us on the day affirm what we believed to be the case; that we have taken the recommendations of our most recent inspection seriously and are working effectively to bring about rapid improvement, most especially in the way we monitor, share and develop the quality of teaching and learning – at the heart of what we do.”
