A doctor is preparing to retire from the practice in Bury St Edmunds at which he has worked for almost three decades.

Dr Chris Hodgson joined the team at Mount Farm Surgery in 1987 when it was based in Looms Lane, Bury, and relocated with it to its current site in Lawson Place, on the Moreton Hall Estate.

Now the 57-year-old father-of-four is preparing to retire in two weeks’ time.

“I’m excited, really looking forward to it,” he said, adding that his plans involve spending more time on his hobbies, which include travelling with his wife, Jane, wood turning and gardening.

“I think it’s a great team, a great surgery and I’m proud to have been part of it,” he said.

“There’s lots about the place I’ll miss - the people and the patients - but not the Government meddling,” he added.
