A Lakenheath foodbank opened its doors for the first time last week.
The foodbank will provide a three-day supply of nonperishable food to people referred by social services and other agencies.
Vince Williams, 56, of Lakenheath, has spearheaded the project.
He said he realised the need for a foodbank service in the village while taking part in a coat drive last winter.
Those referred to the service exchange vouchers for food at The Abundant Life Church, in Back Street, two days a week.
The foodbank is a collaboration between The Abundant Life Church and Sedge Fen Baptist Church and was established with the help of The Trussell Trust.
Mr Williams said he was hopeful more groups would come on board.
He would like to expand the assistance given and is looking into the provision of goods such as school uniforms.
