Soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, the Parachute Regiment, disembark from a Chinook during Exercise Active Eagle at the Stanta training ground near Thetford.
The exercise put the Army’s rapid reaction force through its paces from helicopter assaults to public disturbances, including using Stanta’s mock Afghan village.
The 2 Para Battlegroup, which is based at Colchester, is in the Air Assault Task Force, which is ready to deploy anywhere in the world at short notice to conduct the full spectrum of military operations.
The current 2 Para was formed in 1948 from the 5th (Scottish) Parachute Battalion . It has served in the Far East, Northern Ireland and the Falklands where its CO Lt Col ‘H’ Jones was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross. MOD photo/Cpl Obi Igbo
