A couple who attacked and robbed a 85-year-old woman in Thetford and left her ‘traumatised’ have been jailed for a total of seven years.
Sergejs Mihailovs and Jana Mihailova followed their victim as she walked home from the town centre on Saturday July 5.
At 2:40pm while walking out of the underpass on Croxton Road Mihailovs grabbed the victim by the throat while Mihailova wrestled with her and snatched her handbag, containing cash and personal items.
The victim fell to the floor during the struggle and suffered two dislocated fingers as well as cuts.
Police were called and a man and a woman were arrested following a search.
They were questioned at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre and later charged.
Mihailovs, 42, and Mihailova, 19, of no fixed abode, both pleaded guilty to robbery and were sentenced at Norwich Crown Court yesterday (August 18) to four and three years’ imprisonment respectively. They were also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £120.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Mark Barron, from Thetford CID, called the incident a ‘particularly nasty attack’.
“The offenders targeted, stalked, and attacked the victim without any thought to her age or frail condition and it’s pleasing to see them behind bars where they belong,” he said.
