Mid Suffolk District Council has given the go ahead for a business park in Stowmarket which could attract around 3,000 jobs.

The council approved the development brief for a 79 hectare business and enterprise park off Mill Lane at a meeting this morning.

The aim of the park - a mixture of offices, light industrial units, general industrial and warehousing - is to attract a range of businesses to the outskirts of the town.

But concerns have been raised about the length of time the development would take to build, how the park would affect homes at Clamp Farm and how it will affect traffic on the A1120 and the Tesco roundabout.

Stowmarket Town and County Councillor Gary Green said although the park will bring jobs to the town, work is still needed on the details.

He said: “The design brief itself will be a benefit for Stowmarket.

“There are a massive amount of people in the town who commute to work - we want to keep these jobs in Stowmarket itself.

“But we have to look at the finer details to make sure it is right.”
