Members of Bury St Edmunds’ Friends of Compiegne and their counterparts from Bury’s twin town in Picardy, northern France, were welcomed by St Edmundsbury’s deputy mayor Patrick Chung on Saturday at a reception in St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
The party included two Compiegne councillors and the host families the french visitors will be staying with. The two groups visit each other’s home towns on alternate years.
The two towns have been twinned for more than 40 years. The 1918 armistace was signed at Compiegne.
