Bury St Edmunds residents ‘devastated’ by the recent closure of a popular pub are rallying together to try to improve facilities in their area.
When The Priors Inn closed last month, following its sale by Greene King to Havebury Housing Partnership, there followed an outpouring of emotion from people in the community.
But communications since then on the pub’s Facebook page have prompted meetings at the West End Home Guard Social Club, in Abbot Road.
A committee, the Priors Estate Action Group, was formed at last Wednesday’s meeting – attended by more than 30 residents – with members looking at ways funding can be obtained to improve or establish facilities in the area.
Karen Mayhew, chief executive of Havebury Housing Partnership, said: “We are still in the very early stages of considering how best to redevelop the site to provide new homes and we will be arranging to meet with residents shortly to listen to their views.
“Havebury’s Neighbourhood Investment Panel can fund improvements that benefit not only tenants but the wider community and we are happy to talk to residents about the best way to access the fund.”
