Police will begin a clampdown on illegal parking in Red Lodge from next week.
Police will clampdown on illegal parking in Red Lodge from next week.
The month-long initiative has been launched in response to the concerns of local residents about illegal and irresponsible parking in the village.
Warren Road, close to the village’s school and shop development, is a particular concern following reports of vehicles parked on double yellow lines and obstructing footpaths.
From November 11 officers will increase patrols in the area for four weeks.
Sgt Mark Shipton of Mildenhall SNT said: “Illegal and inconsiderate parking has been identified as a real problem within the community and it not only causes frustration for other residents, but is very often dangerous.
“This initiative is not just about enforcement as we hope to alleviate the issue through awareness and education. Officers will treat each case individually, so there will be an opportunity for some motorists to change their parking habits voluntarily before we resort to issuing them with a fine.”
On the first occasion a car is found to be illegally parked a warning letter will be issued on the second a Fixed Penalty Notice and fine will be given.
However police have said that if the first offence warrants it a fixed penalty notice will be issued at the outset.
