The first consultation evening over the switch to two tier education in Bury St Edmunds left parents with many unanswered questions.
A packed meeting took place at St James Middle School on Monday.
But the lack of clarity, left parents angry and confused.
“It’s not a consultation, its a tick box exercise to meet statutory requirements,” said Jas Lally, the father of a year four pupil at Sebert Wood.
There was concerns that Suffolk County Council has already voted for two tier schooling and was not considering other options such as all through schools.
Phil Whiffing, council project leader said one of the reasons for the switch to two tier education was evidence that each change of school slows a child’s education.
But that prompted concerns from parents of year four pupils who will face two changes in the space of three years. They will go up to middle school in September before going onto an upper school two years later.
The years below them will stay on in their primary school before going up to upper schools at 11.
Mr Lally’s son will be one of those due to go to middle school for just two years.
“I don’t want to have two years of messing around with my son’s education,” he said.
The alternative offered by the council was to send pupils out of Bury or transfer to the three tier County Upper School Academy Trust.
Others concerns were that pupils who stay on at primary schools will miss out on access to science and art blocks.
