The Catholic Church of St Edmund King and Martyr in Westgate Street, Bury, re-opens on Sunday following major redecoration.

Additions include a new altar and an upgraded communications system, plus new carpeting and lighting.

It concludes a £500,000 revamp, which has also included thechapel and crypt.

Fr Philip Shryane, parish priest, said: “We have been extremely grateful to our schools and other denominations that have enabled us to hold services while the church was closed, but will naturally be pleased to be open again in time for Easter – a time of new life.”

A booklet about the church’s history is available at £4.50.
