Planting work to bring pride to a forgotten part of the town has begun, thanks to the Bury Free Press Let’s Be Proud of Bury campaign.
Sustainable planting is being carried out at the entrance to the Parkway underpass thanks to co-operation between various agencies to organise funding and materials.
After the Bury Free Press highlighted unsightly graffiti and litter in the town, communities organised a number of successful clean up projects.
County councillor Mark Ereira-Guyer was prompted by our campaign to highlight the underpass as an area which badly needed sprucing up.
He and Our Bury St Edmunds supplied funding and Bury in Bloom organised the scheme to create a three-tiered display of shrubs and grasses.
Rebecca Davis, grounds maintenance and horticulture officer at St Edmundsbury Borough Council, designed the planting and B&Q supplied materials from its community budget.
Cllr Ereira-Guyer said: “Well done to the Bury Free Press for its campaign. This was an untidy, unloved area which we can brighten up.”
