A bus has collided with a flower shop in Stowmarket causing structural damage to the building just days before Valentines Day.
Police received reports that a bus had collided with Edelweiss flower shop on the corner of Tavern Street and Station Road West just before 8am today.
A police spokesperson said one person had been on the bus at the time of the collision but no injuries were sustained.
Shop owner Isabel Wilton said the collision, which caused structural damage to the listed building, had come at one of the busiest times of the year.
She said: “The most important thing was no one was hurt and that no one was standing outside on the pavement at the time.
“I arrived this morning and the bus had already battered into the window on the side of the shop.
“I was coming in to finish off some flowers for a large funeral and the only thing on my mind was that we needed to get on with that.
“There is structural damage to the building.
“Because the front door was jammed we couldn’t undo the door to get in the shop.
“This is a major setback for us but it’s Valentines week so we just have to carry on and do what we can.
“A lorry with our Dutch flowers can’t get into the town this morning to deliver so they have had to be delayed. “We have 1,500 red roses on it ready for Valentines.
“You have one problem and it turns into 100.”
Isabel said she is running the flower business from Noble and White gift shop opposite the shop.
“We are very fortunate to have the gift shop opposite so everyone will be able to get their flowers from there,” she said.
Traffic diversions were put in place while the bus was recovered.
