When Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club First XV play at home, they have an extra howl of support from the St Edmund’s Wolf - resplendent in the team’s colours.

Since it was installed late last year, the club has wrapped a scarf around the sculpture on the Southgate roundabout and like to think of it as a ‘good luck charm’.

Jane Spetch, club manager, said: “It’s had mixed blessings but it’s an asset. It welcomes any visiting teams.

“People do look out for it now. It reinforces the history and how the club is tied into that history.”

The club’s emblem is a wolf and the scuplture was commissioned by Bury in Bloom.
