A Bury St Edmunds primary school has scooped a £3,000 grant to teach pupils Japanese.
Tollgate Primary was awarded funding from The Japan Foundation to provide Japanese language education to 90 children in Key Stage 2 for a year.
As a member of the Bury Academy Trust, staff will work with a Japanese teacher at County Upper School. Tollgate will also develop links with a school in Japan as part of an existing twinning arrangement with the Trust.
Executive head Alison Earl said: “This interesting addition to the curriculum has already engaged children’s interest and staff are looking forward to high quality continual professional development in the teaching of Japanese alongside the objectives of the new national curriculum.”
