A plane sculpture could be commissioned for a roundabout in Bury St Edmunds to create a memorial to aircrew who ‘gave the ultimate sacrifice’.

Clive Springett, town councillor for Moreton Hall, would like to see a Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber sculpture created for the Mount Road/Lady Miriam Way roundabout, near the Flying Fortress pub, in honour of the 94th Bomb Group.

Last Wednesday, Bury Town Council agreed he should look into the feasibility of the project to present to the council at a future meeting.

“It will be a good thing if we can get something that’s really worth while there,” said council chairman Cllr Stephan Oliver.

Anyone interested in sponsoring the sculpture should email julia.dyball@burystedmunds.suffolk.gov.uk
