More than 50 business people attended an Employer Breakfast, hosted by West Suffolk College and UCS Bury St Edmunds at the West Wing, Ickworth as part of the Bury Business Festival.
The theme of the Business Festival this year was Future Focus.
Keynote speaker Prof Sa’ad Medhat, Chief Executive of the New Engineering Foundation and a UCS Bury St Edmunds Visiting Professor, spoke about how the STEM agenda (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) can help drive growth and support the future of businesses.
Prof Medhat also spoke on innovation for businesses, and how it has many strands.
Delegates were welcomed by Dr Nikos Savvas, the new Principal of West Suffolk College. Friday’s event This was the first Employers’ Breakfast that he had attended.
Jane Powling, Senior Business Development Coordinator, gave an update on the ESF funded Skills Support for the Workforce project. West Suffolk College is one of six colleges in East Anglia that are working together, along with the New Anglia LEP and the Skills Funding Agency, to support the training needs of SMEs (Small to Medium Enterprises).
A college spokeswoman said the event and talks were extremely well received by an audience who also enjoyed a full English breakfast as part of the event.
Delegates also had an opportunity to network and exchanging ideas.
