Staff who have gone the extra mile for customers and forward-thinking marketing strategies will be recognised at the Bury Free Press Business Awards.

The BID Customer Service category is sponsored by town centre improvement organisation Ourburystedmunds, which represents more than 400 businesses.

Chief executive Mark Cordell said: “With town centres under threat from out of town shopping centres, high business rates, car parking charges and the increase of internet trading, it is imperative that our businesses provide high quality customer service and product knowledge wherever they can to encourage people to keep coming back to them.

“What we are looking for from any nominations are specific examples of how members of staff have gone that extra mile and provided an outstanding level of service to customers that couldn’t be matched by online traders.

“It is this personal interaction and service that can make such a positive difference for customers and if the town as a whole can provide this and get a really positive reputation for being customer friendly then this will be yet another reason for people to visit Bury on a regular basis.”

The BID provides and delivers a range of business opportunities for members including marketing and promotion, funding of the Christmas lights and floral displays as well as organising at least four high profile public events a year.

Bury St Edmunds based specialist printers Denny Bros are sponsoring the marketing award.

Managing director Barry Denny said: “During the judging process we will be looking for companies or organisations that can show how they have used careful analysis to identify their target markets and potential gaps in the market and have subsequently either used selected or created products or services to meet this demand.

“They also need to demonstrate a clear objective-led campaign with the appropriate selection of media and distribution channels. We would also want to see innovation and creativity within the activities and finally show a proven return on investment on their campaign, with direct correlation to their activities.

“It would also be good to see, but not essential, an overall year on year growth of their business and for them to demonstrate how they believe their marketing strategy contributed to the growth.”

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, August 13 at 5pm.

The awards will culminate in a glittering ceremony at The Apex, in Bury St Edmunds, on Friday, October 10.
