A family has spent a holiday at Center Parcs with one more member than when they set out for Elveden.

Jason and Suzie Ashman’s second child was not due until June 29, so they thought they had time for a few days at the forest holiday centre with Suzie’s parents and brother’s family of three daughters.

But Jason, from East Grinstead, Sussex, said: “The baby decided he wanted to join us on holiday.

“On the way here my wife started having contractions. We thought we would drop off my daughter with her grand parents and make our way back to the hospital we were booked into in Surrey.

“Our last labour was 36 hours, so we thought we had plenty of time.”

Suzie is a paramedic and Jason a station officer with London Ambulance, so when they realised the baby was in a hurry he called Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge to say they were coming in.

He said. “They were waiting for us at the door and we were in the department nine minutes before the baby was born.”

Just 24 hours later, Center Parcs staff welcomed Suzie and baby Calum to the family villa with a bottle of Champagne.
