Well-known auctioneer and valueur Tom Keane is making his mark on a new business venture in Suffolk and has recently opened Tom Keane’s Antique Traders in Sicklesmere on the A134.

It offers a showroom for antique dealers and is one of two auction rooms Tom now runs. He also owns The Swan, at Tetsworth, in Oxfordshire.

The business is being run by his daughter, Jay,a and her partner Joe Best who live above the timber and flint building with their children.

The couple decided to move out of London after a shocking incident in which a young man was stabbed to death outside their home.

Tom, whose other two daughters also work with him, has invested £350,000 in the Sicklesmere business and has three dealers currently operating there, in clocks, Swedish Art Deco period furniture and antique books.

Known for his TV appearances on Cash in the Attic and Bargain Hunt, Tom is also planning to do some filming at the new business with TV experts Eric Knowles and Paul Hayes.

He said: “I’d been driving past the place and pulled over to have a look and thought this could lend itself to the antiques market.

“It’s a lovely building but was more or less falling apart so we did a lot of work. We started last July and opened on June 1 and since then business has picked up nicely.”
