No freeze on tax here

Brandon Town Council’s decision to raise the Council Tax by 41 per cent is nothing short of blatant opportunism.

Central government decided to freeze the Council Tax at county level and the same applied at district level.

These restrictions did not apply at town level and this left BrandonTown Council able to take full advantage of this loophole and impose draconian increases on the people of Brandon and they should be ashamed.

Apparently, most of the money is required to take charge of Brandon Country Park a food and drink outlet.

Subsequently, the council has endured a stinging backlash to its plan and has now conceded to a public vote. I have no doubt in my mind that the people of Brandon will vote against owning this enormous white elephant.

High Street,

Brandon.
